Pathwork Steps

The phrase 'Pathwork Steps' was chosen to highlight the practical reality of spiritual growth. It is a step by step process. While such steps can be broadly outlined, they are neither linear nor fixed. No '1,2,3' method guarantees personal growth or describes an indivudual's spiritual growth.

It is easy to say that Step 1 is a process of awakening.  We become aware that something is missing from our lives. We may disparage uncomfortable 'feelings' and resist change. We may decide 'something is wrong' and focus upon faults in others, creating external change in our lives that gives us a sense of relief and satisfaction.  A week, a year, or a decade passes. Some of us come to realize that the real cause of our dissatisfaction with life is internal. It is we who have changed, we who wish to live differently, we who feel a calling.

Step 2 represents taking action to support our inner calling. Our epiphany may result in a stronger connection to our community, and call us to leadership within the life we have already establised. Others may embark upon a quest, for greater understanding of what may still seem like 'only' feelings. We seek kinship with others, a safe place to explore, a deeper sense of truth. If we are still thinking dualistically, we want what is 'righit' and try to force new found friends and spiritual groups into being answers or solutions.

The Pathwork lectures teach that the path to our real selves -- finding and uncovering the divine within -- is an indivudual journey. Pathwork Steps offers some distance-learning options to those attracted to the Pathwork Lecures.  Participants are invited to witness others and express themselves. Presentation formats support further exploration of Pathwork principles, while encouraging discussion aout how concepts may apply in our daily lives.

Pathwork Steps was created to:

• Offer a low-cost, short-term series of group meetings (in person, by phone, or online).

• Explore a hybrid experience of self-led group leadership within supervised formats.

• Demonstrate self-led principles based upon established 12-Step meeting formats.

• Develop new formats based upon Pathwork concepts.

• Support self-study of the Pathwork® Lectures  (free downloads at www.pathwork.org).

The personal transformation work described in the Pathwork lectures activates our defenses even as we strive to learn more about them.  Our Egos fear change even as our souls aspire to it; transformation can feel like a death of everything we know, and the unknown can seem like an abyss. It is very challenging to manage our own development.

Pathwork Steps offers a way for participants to express personal feelings and share experiences within a safe container. By eliminating cross-talk and facilitated process work (based upon established 12-step principles), participants are invited to listen to themselves and each other, reflecting upon their inner experiences.
